Cruse Wine Co. with Mike Cruse

Saturday, May 14th, 1-4pm, $15 Like most people who work in wine, I always get a little bit happier when Mike Cruse walks through the door. He’s a seemingly bottomless…

ORDINAIRE. Our name refers to vin ordinarie, or “everyday wine,” which is wine that never makes it into bottle, but is kept back for the winemaker, close friends, and the local bistro. This is the point of the shop: using wine to transform our concept of the ordinary——to transform our concept of the possibility of the ordinary. L’ordinaire est possible!

We focus on natural wines from France, Italy, Spain and California. By “natural wine” we mean wines that are held to the same high standards to which we hold other types of produce, such as organic farming and the absence of preservatives. We believe that wine is an agricultural product, and should be treated as such. With a few exceptions, all of our wines are fermented without the addition of lab yeasts and do not have any sulfur added except at bottling.

We first learned to love the wines of the Loire, Beaujolais and the Jura, so we carry a bunch of wines from those regions. We are excited about the amazing stuff coming out of lesser known appellations in Italy and Spain, and we are convinced of California’s growing potential to make expressive wines free from chemicals and excessive intervention. It’s such an exciting time for wine!

In addition to our retail shop, we also have a wine bar, where we pour wines by the glass. The list changes everyday, depending on the whims of the staff. You can do a flight, or just grab a glass and read a book.

You can also buy any bottle off the wall and drink it in the shop for a $10 corkage fee. We offer cheese from outstanding domestic and European producers, and charcuterie made by the legendary Chris Lee. And we import some totally amazing sardines from Portugal.

We also occasionally host pop-ups and throw wild parties. To find out more, follow us on Instagram, or sign up for the newsletter.

Finally, while we do not keep our inventory online, we do ship wines all over the world. If you are looking for a rare bottle, or just don’t feel like crossing the Bay Bridge, give us a call or send us an email. We’ll set you up.

Keep it Fresh.

The wine club is a great way to explore natural wines from Europe and California. Each month we choose two wines for each club–always a red, and a second bottle of either red, white or sparkling.

Club Ordinaire ($39/month) includes great values meant for everyday enjoyment.
Club Extraordinaire ($69/month) includes wines that are slightly more eclectic and special.
Club Grand Ordinaire ($108/month)  includes all four wines from both clubs.

Wines may be picked up at the shop on the first Saturday of each month.
Along with the wines, you will receive a packet which describes the wines in detail, along with our personal tasting notes and pairing suggestions.

You also receive one free tasting of all four wines on pick-up day and 10% off all of your retail purchases, all the time. So if you are already a regular customer, this is a great way to save. Feel free to use our online sign-up form, or sign up in the shop.
